Volunteer Services Co-ordinator on assignment

Realising her dream job in 2018, Chloe has embraced all that AVI has to offer

Working at AVI was my dream role, so getting the job offer back in 2018 was very exciting. I started out as the Shared Services Admin Officer so worked with the IT, Finance and HR teams. It was a great introduction into the organisation and the international development sector as I got to work with colleagues across multiple teams and get involved in various projects and programs. One of the incredible experiences in this role that I had was in 2019 when I got to travel to Honiara, Solomon Islands to assist coordination of a conference. I knew then that I wanted to go back.

In 2021 I started a new role within AVI, working on the Australian Volunteers Program as the Volunteer Services Support Coordinator. This was a great way for me to understand more about the Program and the experiences that volunteers have. One of my roles was assisting in our Pre-Departure Briefings for volunteers about to head off on their assignments. This was the catalyst for me deciding to apply for my own assignment and after my trip in 2019 I knew I wanted to head back to Honiara.

2023 is a very exciting time to be in Solomon Islands as Honiara is hosting the Pacific Games. I have been lucky enough to be accepted for a 12-month assignment with the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport as a Facilities Operations Mentor and am really excited to learn from the team over there and assist where I can in the lead up to this exciting time.
