Message from AVI CEO Melanie Gow

It is with great joy that I write this first note to you, AVI’s valued supporters, as I settle into my new role as Chief Executive Officer of this remarkable organisation.

I am so pleased to officially have my feet under the desk and spend these first few weeks listening and learning, taking the time to meet with staff, partners and supporters to gain a deep understanding of AVI’s ethos and to begin to establish plans for the future.

I am committed to reaching out to all 150+ of our dedicated AVI staff in our 22 country offices – to meet with them one-on-one, get to know the incredible individuals who make our work possible and immerse myself in the various programs we manage.

Throughout next year I will also be looking for opportunities to meet with you, our committed supporters. To thank you and acknowledge your contributions to the work of AVI and our partners. Without our supporters and partners, our work is simply not possible.

I am also really looking forward to spending time with many of our external partners, offering an opportunity to share reflections and hopes for the future, all of which will help shape immediate priorities for AVI in the new year.

It’s certainly a unique time to step into a new role as we come to the end of what has been a turbulent 2020 for us all in so many ways, including nine months of working from home for staff at AVI headquarters in Melbourne.

As restrictions begin to ease, I look forward to creating opportunities to gather in person and moving into our new home at 160 Johnston Street, Fitzroy.

As someone who thrives in a collaborative environment of teamwork, I can’t wait to witness first-hand how everyone at AVI, supported by you, our wonderful community of supporters, works each and every day to build a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.

Kind regards,

Melanie Gow
AVI CEO
