Collaborating for improved women’s health

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Standard Treatment Manual (STM) for the Solomon Islands is an outcome of the AVI Solomon Islands Graduate Internship Supervision and Support Project (SIGISSP).

A STM Working Group of four O&G specialists, a midwife and a SIGISSP volunteer developed the manual to promote consistent and high-quality O&G care for women throughout the Solomon Islands. The manual was launched in Honiara on May 21, 2019.

The A6-sized manual is available to all healthcare workers across the Solomon Islands in hard copy form. It is designed to fit in the pocket of healthcare workers for easy use. The World Health Organization kindly funded printing of the manual, which means that every healthcare worker in the Solomon Islands who deals with women will receive a personal copy.

The manual is also available as a free app via Solomon Islands Guidelines Host, courtesy of sponsorship from the Therapeutic Guidelines Foundation.

The manual has received endorsement from the Solomon Islands Ministry of Health and Medical Services, and was professionally-designed thanks to generous sponsorship from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
