The Sustainable Tourism Hub is a partnership developed through the Business Partnership Platform, a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) initiative. The partnership, which includes AVI, Intrepid Travel and DFAT, promotes inclusive economic growth by enabling the establishment and sustainable growth of micro-businesses to capitalise on the increasing demand of the Myanmar tourism market.

The unique partnership is an example of how private sector companies can support development by providing insight and expertise, while delivering positive social outcomes through economic activity.

In 2017 and 2018, AVI, The Sustainable Tourism Hub and UNSW collaborated to deliver a pilot program to UNSW students enrolled in the Global Business Practicum subject. The Hub identified five businesses that would benefit from student input, who were then matched based on skills and experience, and assistance requested by businesses. UNSW students provided technical assistance with a specific focus, while receiving the unique opportunity to gain an understanding and be a part of an exciting stage of business development in Yangon.
