Update from AVI's Sri Lanka country office

On Sunday 21 April 2019, a series of bombings occurred in churches and hotels across Sri Lanka.

Australian volunteers in Sri Lanka on the Australian Government’s volunteer program are all safe and accounted for, and our priority is to ensure their ongoing safety and well-being.

The safety and wellbeing of the Australian volunteers and our team members in Sri Lanka will continue to be a key focus over coming weeks and months.

We are supported, comforted and encouraged by the tenacity and commitment of the Australian volunteers. They have been amazing. We have received countless wonderful messages of support and care from around our region and beyond, which is sincerely appreciated.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the bombings in Sri Lanka. In particular, our sympathies are with those who have lost loved ones and the many injured in the attacks.

We are closely monitoring and following guidance issued by the Sri Lankan Government and contained in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade travel advice for Sri Lanka.
