The program provides Australians a unique opportunity to take their skills and experience overseas to contribute to meaningful change in communities across our region. It builds on a long and rich history of skilled Australian volunteers heading overseas to support local organisations, while also forging new partnerships and friendships.
The Australian Volunteers Program matches skilled Australians with partner organisations, to help those organisations achieve their own development goals. A broad range of Australian volunteers, with diverse experience, skills and backgrounds, are needed to support partner organisations in 26 developing countries.
The program is part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) people-to-people program portfolio, connecting Australians to Australia’s aid program and the Indo-Pacific region.
